Wuppertal-based tuner Manhart is already offering a tuning kit for the Audi RS3 so it was about time they offered a similar treatment for the mechanically-related Cupra Formentor VZ5. The Manhart CP 500 as they call it has increased power, upgraded suspension, and new wheels, making it look more like a hyper hot hatch rather than an SUV.
The turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine produces 385 hp (287 kW / 390 PS) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque in stock form, but Manhart’s MHtronic module elevates it to 483 hp (360 kW / 490 PS) and 630 Nm (464.7 lb-ft). Interestingly, Manhart promises more power and torque than the equivalent proposal from rival tuner ABT Sportsline which makes 444 hp (331 kW / 450 PS) and 530 Nm (391 lb-ft).

The sound of the engine has also been improved thanks to a valve-controlled exhaust, which comes with Audi RS-style dual oval tailpipes instead of the characteristic quad pipes of the stock Formentor VZ5. The healthy boost in power is also combined with a new H&R suspension bringing the SUV closer to the ground and resulting in sharper handling on country roads.
In terms of visual upgrades, Manhart didn’t do much to the Formentor other than adding decals that are painted in copper to match Cupra’s branding. They also propose a new set of Concave One alloy wheels with a diameter of 20 inches shod in performance tires.
Note that the aforementioned Stage 1 tuning kit could be followed in the future by a Stage 2 with an upgraded intercooler, a new air intake, and an ECU remap. Owners of the Cupra Formentor VZ5 that are interested in Manhart’s upgrades can contact the tuner directly. The performance flagship of the entire Cupra range had a limited production of 7,000 units.
