SsangYong Motor, the Korean automaker that will soon be renamed to KG Mobility, published the first photos of the new Torres EVX which will debut on March 30 at the 2023 Seoul Mobility Show together with a large number of concepts and production vehicles.
The SUV was previously known as the U100 project. The Torres EVX production name is a combination of the EV (electric vehicle) and X (eXtreme) letters, communicating its adventurous character. The model looks different from its ICE-powered counterpart thanks to the redesigned face which represents an evolution of the “Powered by Toughness” design language that is specific to EVs.

A slim LED DRL bar replaces the Jeep-style grille of the regular Torres with six illuminated dots, a feature that will likely be widely used in the future to differentiate the automaker’s zero-emission vehicles. The bumper is also unique to the EVX with the actual headlights mounted low on the side inlets, and a more discreet skid plate.
The profile is identical to the ICE-powered Torres with the exception of the new alloy wheels. SsangYong didn’t show us the rear end but hinted at a full-width LED bar and the signature bump on the tailgate resembling a spare wheel cover. The interior has also been overhauled with a new dual-screen digital cockpit and wood-style inserts on the dashboard. The steering wheel is carried over, but the touch-sensitive area for the climate controls is gone. The company says that the new dash “improved overall visibility” and describes the new UX as more ergonomic.
The absence of SsangYong branding from the exterior was something to be expected, as the company will soon change its name to KG Mobility, together with an overhauled logo and corporate identity. However, this change will likely be announced at a later date, since the Torres EVX retains the SsangYong badge on the steering wheel.
The automaker didn’t reveal the specifications of the Torres EVX, saving them for the official premiere. The SUV could share its underpinnings with the smaller Korando e-Motion. The latter comes fitted with a single front-mounted electric motor producing 190 hp (140 kW / 190 PS), and a 61.5 kWh battery (55.3 kWh usable) offering 340 km (211 miles) of WLTP range. It will be interesting to see if the Torres EVX gets upgraded hardware and whether it will remain a FWD proposal.
The Torres EVX will be one of the 16 vehicles and EV platforms that will be showcased at the SsangYong Motor stand in Seoul. Among the reveals will be the KR10, O100, and F100 concepts – most likely SUVs – as well as modified versions of its production models. Finally, SsangYong will present its “vision as a mobility company”, so there could also be other types of vehicles among the debuts.
