With only 300 set to be made, the 2023 Dodge Challenger Black Ghost Last Call special edition is already an exclusive beast. But if you want to snag car #1 of 300, then you’ll need to head down to the Mecum Indy 2023, where the very first car will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.

The sixth Last Call Challenger / Charger to be announced is based on an SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody but gets a boost in power to a heady 807 hp (602 kW/818 PS) from the 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8. There are other aspects that make up this run-out edition that commemorates the end of ICE Challenger production. These include a gator skin vinyl roof, a white rear fender graphic, Challenger grille script, and spoiler badges.

For the money you’ll shell out, the Challenger Black Ghost features an SRT Power Chiller, 20×10-inch Warp Speed Satin Carbon wheels, an 18-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system, and Alcantara and Laguna leather front seats. There’s a Last Call underhood plaque to confirm the car’s authenticity, and the original window sticker will stay affixed.

However, there’s just one problem with this listing. And that’s the fact that you may just be tempted to go ahead and pick up the original Black Ghost instead. That’s right, the car that the special edition honors, the 1970 “Black Ghost” Dodge 1970 Hemi Challenger R/T SE, is also making its way to the Mecum Indy. It’s the first time it’ll be publically available since it’s original owner, Officer Godfrey Qualls, bought it in 1969.

The classic Challenger is number 29 on the National Historic Vehicle Association Register and gained a reputation for beating all manner of competitors before disappearing into the night — likely because getting caught would have done Officer Qualls’ reputation no favors. It may not have been strictly above board, but it earned the car the legendary Black Ghost title, propelling it into the history books.

The Dana Mecum 36th original Spring Classic Indy will feature some 3,000 vehicles and will be held from May 12–20th, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis. Registrations for bids are open now.
