When Lexus introduced the redesigned RX, the company announced plans for an all-new plug-in hybrid variant known as the RX 450h+. The automaker is now revealing more about it as the model will arrive in the United States late this year and start at $70,080 (including destination).

That’s a hefty premium over the 2023 RX 350h Luxury, which begins at $58,750. However, the RX 450h+ features a plug-in hybrid powertrain that consists of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, two electric motors, and a lithium-ion battery pack. This setup enables the all-wheel drive crossover to produce a combined output of 304 hp (227 kW / 308 PS) and accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in approximately 6.2 seconds. If drivers keep their foot planted, they’ll eventually top out at 124 mph (200 km/h).

More importantly, the RX 450h+ has an estimated electric-only range of 35 miles (56 km). That’s plenty considering the Federal Highway Administration says the average American only travels 36.9 miles (59.4 km) each day. When the battery is drained, it can be fully recharged in approximately two-and-a-half hours using a 240V outlet.

Besides the plug-in hybrid powertrain, the RX 450h+ has 21-inch wheels with a dark metallic finish. Buyers will also find perforated semi-aniline leather seats with heating and ventilation. They’re joined by a head-up display, a 14-inch infotainment system, and a panoramic glass roof. Other highlights include a heated steering wheel, thematic ambient lighting, and Ash Bamboo or Black Open Pore wood trim.

On the topic of equipment, the crossover comes with the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 suite of driver assistance systems. It includes All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with Curve Speed Management, Lane Tracing Assist (Lane Centering), and a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection. Other highlights include Proactive Driving Assist, Road Sign Assist, and Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist.

If the standard systems aren’t enough, you can opt for Traffic Jam Assist and Advanced Park with a Remote Park function. Customers can also get an optional 21-speaker Mark Levinson premium audio system.
