Police chases are relatively common in California, but it’s not every day you see one that involves a pit stop. However, that’s what happened yesterday as a driver decided to hit pause and refuel.
Details are limited, but ABC 7 reports police encountered a Dodge Charger with a driver they suspected might be under the influence. Police appear to have attempted a traffic stop, but the driver decided to flee.

The station said the chase reached speeds in excess of 130 mph (209 km/h) and even a news helicopter couldn’t keep up with the vehicle. The chase appears to have lasted for around 30 minutes, and the combination of speed and distance meant the Charger was running out of gas.
Instead of abandoning the vehicle, the driver decided to stop at a Chevron station and pay at least $5.89 per gallon. As police pulled into the station, the driver casually got back into the car and took off.
The driver kept going – sometimes with the headlights turned off – before ditching the car in Pasadena. The station says the driver and two passengers attempted to flee on foot, but all three were eventually apprehended by police.
Authorities haven’t said much about the incident, but the driver is likely facing a long list of charges, including speeding, reckless driving, and fleeing and eluding.
