Ferrari’s New V6 Hypercar Loses Its Roof, Not Its 1,184 Horses

Ferrari unveiled the F80 in October of 2024 and the company is preparing to expand the lineup as spy photographers have snapped a new prototype undergoing testing in Maranello. It’s believed to be the F80 Aperta as the company trademarked the moniker in 2023.

Given this is an open air variant, it’s not surprising that the design is virtually identical to the coupe. However, there’s thick camouflage covering the roof and hiding its secrets from onlookers.

While there isn’t much to see, it is interesting to note the car is retaining the side wings that are located just behind the front windows. This suggests the removable roof section may not extend all the way to the back of the passenger compartment.

Speaking of which, the roof will likely mirror the one used on the LaFerrari Aperta. That model celebrated the brand’s 70th anniversary and was offered with a removable carbon fiber panel as well as a soft top you could effectively roll up and take off.

The F80 Aperta should also echo the LaFerrari variant by adopting a reinforced structure and aerodynamic tweaks. This should ensure the car remains as rigid as the coupe, while also keeping the cabin comfortable with the roof off.

The powertrain should carryover and this means we can expect a 3.0-liter (2992 cc) V6 that produces 888 hp (662 kW / 900 PS) and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque. It’s joined by an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, a 2.28 kWh battery pack, as well as front- and rear-mounted motors.

This setup gives the F80 a combined output of 1,184 hp (883 kW / 1,200 PS). It allows the coupe to rocket from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 2.15 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 217 mph (350 km/h).

The F80 Aperta is expected to debut next year to honor the company’s 80th anniversary. Production will reportedly be limited to 399 units, which would make it rarer than the 799 coupes.
