• Ram’s ProMaster City arrives early next year for an unbeatable price.
  • The work van starts at $39,995, which significantly undercuts rivals.
  • There will be cargo and passenger variants with seating for up to eight.

When Ram introduced the 2027 ProMaster City earlier this year, the company announced pricing was expected to start below $40,000. They’re now delivering on that, as the van starts at $39,995, which includes a hefty $2,595 destination fee.

This means the commercial van costs $3,495 less than the fleet-focused Chrysler Pacifica LX as well as $8,970 less than the 2026 ProMaster 1500 Tradesman Cargo Van. The model also undercuts the Ford Transit by $11,000, while limbing under the $51,285 Mercedes Sprinter. It’s even a better deal than the ancient Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana.

First Look: Ram ProMaster City Returns With European Roots And An Unbeatable Price

That being said, the ProMaster City isn’t exactly a spring chicken. Quite the opposite, as it’s an Americanized version of the K0 vans that Stellantis offers in Europe. This means it’s closely related to an assortment of different models, including the Citroën Jumpy, Peugeot Expert, Fiat Scudo, Toyota Proace, and Opel / Vauxhall Vivaro.

The ProMaster City will be offered in Tradesman and SLT trims, with the former featuring a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch infotainment system. They’re joined by a digital rearview mirror, heated front seats, and a tilt-and-telescoping steering column.

The SLT variant sports a more upscale design as it features body-colored bumpers, fog lights, and 17-inch aluminum wheels. Buyers will also find a heated steering wheel, a wireless smartphone charger, and front parking sensors.

An assortment of options will be available, including a “variety of window and panel configurations.” Customers can also opt for a partition wall, while the passenger variant offers seating for five or eight.

Speaking of equipment, the ‘right-sized’ van comes with a handful of driver assistance systems. They include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, automatic headlights / automatic high beams, and driver attention alert. The model also has a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, and a programmable speed limiter.

While the equipment list isn’t very impressive, the ProMaster City was designed for work. It has 167.1 cubic feet (4,732 liters) of cargo space and a load floor that spans 111.1 inches (2,822 mm) long. There’s also 48.9 inches (1,242 mm) of room between the rear wheel wells, which means the van can accommodate 4-by-8-foot sheets of drywall as well as pallets.

Other highlights include a payload capacity of more than 2,000 lbs (907 kg) and the ability to tow a 2,000-lb (907 kg) trailer, when equipped with the optional Class 3 hitch.

Motivation is provided by a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 166 hp (124 kW / 168 PS) and 221 lb-ft (299 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission, which powers the front wheels.

Production will begin in Turkey later this year and deliveries are scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.
