While there will be a sizable time gap between the new Audi Q7 and Q8, Volkswagen isn’t wasting anytime as they’ve announced plans to introduce the redesigned Atlas Cross Sport on August 10. It debuts roughly four months after its seven-seat counterpart was introduced at the New York Auto Show.
The automaker isn’t saying much at this point, but they released a single teaser image of the midsize crossover. It shows an angular rear window and a pronounced spoiler.

That’s not much to go on, but the five-seater should follow in the footsteps of its larger counterpart. However, we can expect slightly sportier styling and a tad less practicality.
The interior should take a major step forward as the larger Atlas comes nicely equipped with heated and ventilated leatherette front seats, a heated steering wheel, and genuine wood trim. They’re joined by a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.9-inch infotainment system, and a dual wireless smartphone charger.

Higher-end variants up the ante with illuminated exterior door handles and glowing Volkswagen logos. They also sport Varenna or Nappa leather upholstery, a 15-inch infotainment system, and a panoramic sunroof. Well-heeled Atlas buyers will also find heated and ventilated second-row seats, a 30-color ambient lighting system, and a 14-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system with a subwoofer.
Putting equipment aside, we can expect the Atlas Cross Sport to have a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 282 hp (210 kW / 286 PS) and 258 lb-ft (349 Nm) of torque. It should be connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission as well as a choice of front- or all-wheel drive. With the latter, we can expect a fuel economy rating of around 20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.
