Volkswagen has recently unveiled the facelifted Multivan T7 alongside an updated California variant, with mild styling tweaks and new technology inside the cabin. ABT Sportsline saw that as an opportunity to launch a “refinement package” for the van and camper, giving them a little bit of GTI flavor.
Designed for those who want to stand out on family trips, corporate shuttle runs or at the campsite, the factory-backed modifications focus on styling and handling, but they can also include performance tweaks.

At the front, the vans gain a pronounced splitter and special garnish for the side intakes making them slightly more aggressive. The bodykit also includes high gloss black side skirts and a matching rear bumper extension with an integrated diffuser. ABT doesn’t offer a rear spoiler, as the stock unit is already large enough for a van.

The upgrade with the most significant effect on the exterior design is the new ABT Halo alloy wheels measuring 20 inches in diameter with a diamond-cut finish. The new shoes can be combined with an optional lowering springs, reducing the ground clearance by 30 mm (1.2 in). The lowered suspension can improve handling on tarmac but doesn’t sound so practical for the California camper.

The tuner has also announced an upcoming ABT Power performance upgrade, promising to “unlock the engine’s full potential”. This is likely focused on the turbo 2.0-liter gasoline engine which is widely used across the VW Group portfolio. The Multivan T7 is also available with turbodiesel and plug-in hybrid powertrain options, producing up to 242 hp (180 kW / 245 PS) in electrified form.
The ABT “refinement package” for the VW Multivan T7 and its California sibling will soon go on sale in Germany, although pricing has yet to be announced. The kit will be available directly via VW Commercial Vehicles’ online configurator for purchase or leasing.
Of course, owners can always retrofit it later as an aftermarket upgrade. Judging from the fact that the styling updates on the Multivan T7 are focused on the front bumper, we guess that most of the parts will also be compatible with pre-facelifted models.
