• Nissan will introduce the new PIXO electric city car on September 23.
  • Model was recently spied and is a restyled version of the Renault Twingo.
  • Hatchback could cost around €19,500 ($22,610) and have 163 miles of range.

Nissan has confirmed plans for a new electric city car, ahead of its debut on September 23. While the model was originally expected to be called the Wave, it will instead adopt the PIXO moniker.

The automaker isn’t saying much at this point, but hinted the model is “small in size yet big in personality.” Nissan went on to mention the A-segment vehicle will be built in Europe for European drivers and combine compact dimensions with distinctive design.

While the emoji-themed teaser video doesn’t reveal much, a prototype was spied earlier this month. It revealed the PIXO will be a restyled version of the Renault Twingo.

As part of the makeover, the city car has been equipped with a unique front end that features more traditional, squared-off headlights. The model will also have a less adventurous hood and a revised front intake with a cube-like mesh pattern.

Additional styling changes appear limited, but the PIXO will have a streamlined rear end with more conventional lighting units. We can also expect revised wheels and a few other tweaks.

The interior is more mysterious, but should have a lot in common with the Twingo. This means we can expect a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch infotainment system. They should be joined by minimalist controls and flashy accents for personality.

While the styling will be unique to the PIXO, we can expect a familiar powertrain that consists of a 27.5 kWh battery pack and an electric motor developing 80 hp (60 kW / 82 PS) and 129 lb-ft (175 Nm) of torque. Those underwhelming numbers should enable the city car to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 12.1 seconds and onto a top speed of 81 mph (130 km/h). Drivers can also expect a WLTP range of around 163 miles (263 km).
