Chevy Is Bringing Back The Colorado Desert Boss
Pickup truck buyers love rugged, off-road-focused accessories, which is why it made so much sense when Chevrolet introduced the Desert Boss package for the Colorado in 2023. The kit included upgrades like a distinctive bull bar, a roof-mounted light bar, a rear sports bar, and 17-inch wheels with 33-inch tires. However, after just a year on sale, Chevy axed the Desert Boss. Now it's making a return on the 2027 Chevy Colorado.
GM Authority reports that Chevy will reintroduce the Desert Boss Special Edition, and just like before, this package will only be available on the Colorado ZR2. The package will include a special off-road front bumper, a distinctive lighting package, Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers, Tech Bronze-finished recovery hooks, door sill plates, and a decal package for the front fenders. Unlike the previous Desert Boss, which was a factory-prepped special edition, the 2027 version will be sold exclusively as a dealer-installed option.
The 2027 Colorado is also getting an upgraded engine
The most noteworthy upgrade is certainly the new Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers. These are nitrogen-charged hydraulic bump stops designed to work in conjunction with Multimatic's DSSV dampers. These dampers are available on the Colorado ZR2 as a $2,583 option, but they are included as standard equipment on the ZR2 Bison model. There's no word on how much the new Desert Boss package will cost, but the 2023 edition added $9,295 to a regular Colorado's sticker price. The report adds that this package will not be offered in conjunction with the Bison or Midnight packages.
The addition of this Desert Boss Special Edition package isn't the only important update for the 2027 Chevy Colorado. The popular pickup truck will now come fitted with GM's updated turbocharged 2.7-liter inline-four. The new engine, known as the L4B, replaces the L3B and is already available on the 2027 Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500. It's rated at 350 horsepower and 450 pound-feet, representing solid gains over the old engine's 310 hp and 430 lb-ft. Pricing details haven't been announced, but we expect them to be released soon.
