The Nissan Skyline GT-R is a true automotive great, achieving cult-like status in a way few other cars have matched. First launched in 1969 as the 2000 GT-R, it was initially sold exclusively as a sedan, but in late 1970, Nissan launched a coupe version. The legendary lineage continued through to the 2000s.

If you want to buy a pristine, low-mileage first-gen Skyline GT-R today, you'll need to part with upwards of $200,000. That's far beyond the reach of most of us. Thankfully, Mattel Brick Shop and Hot Wheels have the answer: an intricate, 833-piece set that lets you build your own 1971 Skyline 2000 GT-R.

The model debuted this week at the Paris Motor Show and will land at retailers in January, priced at $59.99. It's a 1:16-scale version of the Nissan that comes in two configurations and offers a host of configurable parts.

The scale model includes road and race specifications

In the standard setup, it mimics an original road-going Skyline, finished in white with bright red decals on the hood, roof, doors, and the rear wing. It also includes hood-mounted black wing mirrors and silver wheels, just like the original. If you'd prefer to display a 2000 GT-R on your desk that looks like it just rolled off a racetrack, that's also possible.

Each set comes with an extra set of wheels, finished in black, as well as a red splitter that attaches to the front bumper. It also includes a pair of small red headlight covers, and you can remove the grille and add an externally mounted intercooler with exposed piping.

The model also comes with a traditional white-and-green Japanese license plate and a fully equipped interior, including a dashboard, steering wheel, and driver's seat. Flip up the hood, and you'll find a small replica engine inside. The model even has functional steering, with several gears and plastic shafts connecting the steering wheel to the front wheels. Perhaps the only disappointing thing about the model is that it won't arrive in time for Christmas.
