"Grand Theft Auto VI" will be released in less than a month. Whether you're a gamer or not, the game's release will be a major cultural moment, coming almost 14 years after its predecessor and more than four years after Rockstar confirmed development. If you're not already amped about its release, this official launch trailer should get you buzzing.
Calling 2013's "Grand Theft Auto V" a landmark moment would do it a disservice. On its first day, more than $800 million worth of copies were sold, and after three days, that figure crossed over $1 billion. It was all anyone in the gaming generation could talk about, and it has since sold over 230 million copies, making it one of the best-selling games ever, trailing only Tetris and Minecraft.
The world was very different in 2013, and the way we consumed media was, too. With that in mind, it'll be interesting to see if "GTA VI" can live up to the hype and match the older games. First impressions are great. Set in the fictional U.S. state of Leonida, inspired by Florida, it marks the return of the legendary Vice City and follows the story of Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, a modern-day Bonnie-and-Clyde criminal couple.
Following the familiar GTA recipe
This launch trailer confirms it has all the right ingredients to be a hit. It includes the interesting characters you'd expect, plus plenty of guns, thieves, stunts, cars, and wild police chases. The iconic Vice City debuted in the original "Grand Theft Auto" game launched in 1997, before becoming the focal point of "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City," released in 2002. The new game is launching on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026. A PC version could launch at a later date, but that's yet to be confirmed.
In the lead-up to the game's release, Sony has launched a special-edition DualSense wireless controller for the PS5 that was inspired by "GTA VI." Available to pre-order now on Amazon and set for release on November 19, it's bathed in white with bright blue and purple accents, as well as pink on the buttons. Leaves and a large Vice City-themed 'VI' in the center add some extra intrigue to the controller. It's available for $84 — only $0.99 less than the PS5's Gran Turismo Limited Edition controller.
