Brabus Has Turned The G Wagon Into An 888 HP Pickup

We've seen some pretty insane modified Mercedes-Benz G-Wagons over the years, and the new P 900 Rocket Edition from Brabus might just be the most outlandish. Brabus describes the P 900 Rocket Edition as a road-focused supercar, and while it's obviously not a supercar, it's certainly more road-focused than an ordinary G-Class. Thanks to aftermarket coilovers, it sits 1.8 inches lower than stock and also rides on a set of huge 24-inch wheels with black spokes and carbon fiber aero trimmings. Clearly, it's more suited to smooth pavement than gravel and dirt.

Beyond featuring all the dramatic interior and performance upgrades you'd expect, it's also been transformed into a pickup truck. Brabus engineered a new steel bulkhead behind the rear seats with a heated rear window, then formed the floor and tailgate from metal, and the side panels from lightweight carbon fiber. There's no word on how much cargo it can carry but that probably doesn't matter, because we can't imagine owners using the bed often unless they want to pose for some social media snaps.

The rest of the body has also been extensively modified. These tweaks start with a new front bumper with enlarged air intakes and carbon fiber accents, in addition to a black Brabus grille with an illuminated emblem and a glowing shroud. A new hood has also been fitted, and carbon fiber flared wheel arches add to the supercar-inspired look. It also features new side steps, tailpipes that glow red, and a matte black steel sports bar sitting over the bed.

The Rocket has the power to match those looks

There's a lot going on under that new hood, too. The G 63's twin-turbocharged V8 has been retained, but the cylinder bores have grown to 3.3 inches (84 mm), increasing the V8's displacement from 4.0 liters to 4.4 liters. The P 900 also has forged pistons, a custom billet crankshaft, and two larger turbochargers running at 20 psi. An upgraded fuel system supports the engine modifications, as do new downpipes and a stainless steel exhaust.

These mechanical changes, working alongside a tuned ECU, allow this beast to deliver 888 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 922 lb-ft (1,250 Nm) at 2,900 rpm. However, the torque figure is capped at 774 lb-ft (1,050 Nm) to protect the transmission. While no curb weight has been listed, Brabus says its crazed G-Class needs just 3.7 seconds to hit 62 mph (100 km/h).

The interior also hasn't escaped the Brabus touch, as it includes new leather and genuine Alcantara in addition to red quilted stitching. A slew of other interior parts are also finished in red, including the door handles, air vents, and speaker grilles. Brabus has then added loads of carbon fiber features, modified the doors to now open up to 90 degrees, and added a new steering wheel.

Total production of the P 900 Rocket Edition will be limited to just 10 units. Brabus says the example pictured above has an eye-watering price tag of €711,718 (about $796,805), although prices will vary significantly depending on personalization options.
