Porsche Launches Espresso Machine With A Ducktail Spoiler
And it can be yours for the Porsche-inspired price of $7,911.
Porsche isn't shy about brand collaborations. In fact, it built an espresso maker a couple of years ago that sold out in just eight hours despite a price of $7,000. Now, it's back with another one, and it costs even more. Hey, at least it comes with a cute little ducktail spoiler in tribute to one of Porsche's most famous cars.
The new machine, the La Marzocco Linea Micra special edition, pays tribute to the 911 Carrera RS 2.7. It does so both with that spoiler we mentioned and with Porsche paint colors and fonts. For example, the red and green needles on the pressure gauges are inspired by Porsche colors. The dials feature "RS" and "2.7" badges. The side of the machine gets its own limited edition "One of 911" plaque.
Three color schemes are available. Buyers in America can select from white and green or tangerine and black. Production for each paint color is limited to just 911 examples. Germany also has a region-specific version painted in white and blue, just like the 911 Carrera RS 2.7. There are only 150 units of it to go around. Does all of that explain why it's evidently worth $7,911 before tax? Probably not, but let's at least get into the details of what each machine offers in terms of tech specs.
The mechanicals
These espresso makers are all modeled on La Marzocco's Linea Micra machine. They get a convertible portafilter that can use a single spout, double spout, or a bottomless configuration. Users can leverage an app to adjust temperatures and schedule brew times. The water tank holds two liters, and there's even some LED lighting to add a little drama. The ducktail spoiler motif is part of the cup holder on top — a simple, subtle nod.
The brands also collaborated on a grinder modeled after La Marzocco's Pico. It's available in the same colors and costs $2,125 before tax. The machine allows three memory settings, stepless grind adjustment, and manual grinding. A magnetically adjustable portafilter and self-closing hopper add some convenience that can help this machine stand out a little. Of course, the RS lettering and collaboration logos all do that to their own degree. Combined, the set costs $10,036 before tax and shipping. Boy, do I feel less terrible about a $20 Starbucks order.
For those of you with well over $10,000 burning a hole in your pocket, I have good news. There's plenty more Porsche coffee stuff to buy. That includes a coffee aroma tin for just $135. There are also barista napkins — I am not joking — for the nice price of $69. Porsche is also selling miniature versions of the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 that match the coffee makers' paint schemes.
In case that wasn't enough, the company also sells several versions of espresso cups. The ones that match these machines sell as a two-pack with saucers for $105. Those willing to go for most of the other designs can get just an espresso cup for around $35. The last set of espresso machines sold out in eight hours. I wouldn't be shocked if these do the same.
