As an avid fan of BMW's E30 3-Series, you can understand my enthusiasm after discovering a virtually brand-new 1992 325i with a mere 237 miles or 381 kilometers on the odometer, while surfing on eBay last night following an exhaustive coverage of the Detroit Auto Show – what can I say, I love cars…
Sure, it was the less desirable convertible (albeit fitted with a automatic manual transmission), but how often do you find an E30 these days with virtually no road time?
But as with many other things in this life, the first two seconds of enthusiasm were followed by disappointment upon looking at the Arizona seller's asking price of…$42,900 (€32,200 at the current exchange rates).
I don’t know why and how the car ended up being garaged for more than two decades, but the seller says that during this time, it was "covered throughout its life".
Naturally, we all know that when a vehicle remains unused for such a long period, many things can and will start to break or go bad. The current owner of the 325i Cabriolet says the car recently underwent service to fix these issues, and which are listed in detail below. Whether everything was addressed, is another story, for the car's future buyer to find out.
As for the asking price, true, it is extremely rare to discover a virtually unused BMW E30, but the 325i Cabriolet isn't a special model in any way. Even if it was a 320iS (the M3's less potent brother made for Italy and Portugal) or a 325iS with a stick shift, I doubt someone would pay $40k for it. A couple of months ago, I remember finding an extremely rare left-hand drive 320iS with the much sought after M Technic aero and styling package with around 50,000 miles and in pristine condition for about $19,000 in the UK (worldwide delivery).
If you want another example, do you remember the 1991 BMW 850i with a six-speed manual and only 11,440 miles or 18,407 kilometers that was up for sale on eBay with an asking price of $47,500? That was in July of 2012. Fast forward to today, and the same seller has dropped the price to $33,500…

Automatic transmission? Based on the photos, it looks like a manual transmission to me.
No way in hell this is not even a classic. 1992 LOL you could buy a nice old muscle car with that money.
Yes, you're right...I'll punish myself by driving a three-speed auto for the next few weeks.
I love it and if I were you and had that kind of money with me, I would have probably bought it. Then again, it's just me. Get it checked thoroughly at a BMW service station and see whether anything else needs to be looked into.
No.
Covered? Liquids still sat in the tubes, hoses, etc. A lot of those parts still deteriorate even if not used. If it had been maintained this entire time then it might be a different story at a much lower price.
People buy bimmers to go around corners really, really, fast. Domestic cars, especially old muscle cars can't turn a corner at any speed and are only good at going straight.
A 9000 dollar used civic si with 100k plus miles is faster, safer, and can corner better then this overpriced bmw. This can is NOT A CLASSIC!!! At this price one is very close to the price of a nice 1969 Chevrolet Camaro. We all know BMW is about the name but you think the ladies will be impressed with a 92 325i or a 69 Chevrolet Camaro. 14k max for this thing just because its new.
Agreed this thing might bomb after a couple of miles.
I'd rather keep driving my pristine 1990 Reatta convertible.
Why ... I could see an asking price of that magnitude for an M3 variant but no way for this =)
lol, lets not get to carzy there!
YES!
yes!!!
This is a 1993 model actually, as it would've gone on sale in 1993 if built in December 1992. It's odd how the owner doesn't even know the correct model year of their vehicle.
hell no so as soon as I get home every single warning light comes on and smoke starts pouring out from every hole. I think I'll pass.
For those that posted that this not a very rare car, I beg to differ.....the body color euro bumpers were only offer from mid 1990 on and the last of the hardtop e30 3 series rolled off the assembly lines in April of 1991. The convertible was the oddball because it hung on to January of 1993. Over the lifespan of the 325ic there were 85,246 examples produced globally, which calulates out to about 13,874 examples per year, globally.
If you have never had the pleasure of owning an E30 3 series you have no idea what you're missing. The handling and road manners are second to none, and the reliability is top notch. Add that and the fact that the convertibles are just as sought after as the M3, and you might just have a $42,900 automobile.
Er, no. Old car. Don't care, old model. Old POS. Old. Did I mention it was old. I wouldn't buy it at all - period. No. Nope.
PS - Good luck selling it. Lol!
