Despite announcing the brand’s further growth and development, the current (but soon to be ex-) CEO of Ford, Alan Mulally, made it clear they are not going to bring Lincoln into Europe, or anywhere else apart from the two originally announced markets. It will stay a US- and China-only brand for the foreseeable future.

According an Autocar report, Mulally hinted at the brand’s future direction, saying, “the world is charged on premium, but people want affordable luxury and technology too and there’s a sweet spot there for Ford to deliver it,” or, in other words, they are not going to take Lincoln an further upmarket than it currently is. A segment similar, if you will, to Volvo; not outright luxurious, yet far from the mainstream.

The first signal of Lincoln’s revival is the recently revealed MKC, a crossover based on the Ford Escape. It will be followed by the Ford Edge-based MKX (pictured), a model previewed in concept form in Beijing and expected to go into production sometime in 2015.
