While the BMW X4 may not make sense to everybody, we agree with Tom Mutchler from Consumer Reports that it doesn’t have to: those who get it, will want one, and those who don’t, will buy a more conventional model in the manufacturer’s lineup, one that is very similar to it in every way – a 3-Series GT, for instance.

The X4 is addressed to those who can’t afford or don’t want to have trouble parking an X6, as it rides on the same underpinnings as an X3 and is therefore noticeably more compact. It should also be able to handle some unevenness in the road, though that quality is certainly put into question if you opt for M-Sport parts that make it a lower and stiffer affair.

For some reason, after watching the review posted below, the X4 does sort-of make sense and it’s certainly a more exciting proposal than the X3. However, the X3 is far better at being practical, while offering pretty much the same ride, handling and performance characteristics.
