Succeeding in the lineage of what is arguably one of the world’s most favorite hypercars (the Zonda), the Pagani Huayra is somehow struggling to reach both the fame and the legions of fans that its long-lived predecessor had.
Some say it is because of the “fishy” design, while others blame the addition of turbochargers underneath all that carbon fiber and carbotainium.
Whatever the reason, nobody can really say that the Huayra is a lesser hypercar than the Zonda when it comes to performance.
Its hand-built AMG V12 engine – derived from the one found in Mercedes-Benz 65 AMG models – delivers an output of 730 hp and an electronically-controlled 1,000 Nm (738 lb ft) of torque, or more than enough to propel it from naught to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.2 seconds and then onward to a top speed of 370+ km/h (230+ mph).
After all is said and done, the gargantuan amount of horsepower and torque, the super-light carbotainium and carbon fiber construction or the active aerodynamics mean nothing if none of them brings an advantage in the real world.
Not necessarily to prove that, one of the few right-hand drive Pagani Huayras out there recently went for a high-speed charge of the Goodwood Hill Climb, during last week’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. Thankfully, car-spotter Shmee150 was there to put one of his GoPros inside the roaring V12 monster, sharing the resulting video with the rest of us. Are you still missing the Zonda?
