A new study finds texting with Google Glass while driving is still a distraction, even if it’s not quite as bad as using your phone to do the same task.

Researchers at the University of Central Florida found it’s still not a good idea to use Google Glass while driving, with drivers able to hit their brakes no faster than those using a phone to text, for example. In all of the tests, the UCF study showed there was clear distraction when using Glass compared to someone who was just driving.

But researcher Ben Sawyer said the following:
Glass did help drivers in our study recover more quickly than those texting on a smartphone. We hope that Glass points the way to technology that can help deliver information with minimal risk.

That meant drivers were more likely to recover from being frazzled by, for example, something running out into the road and forcing emergency action.

Glass isn’t flawless yet, but the researchers were encouraged by the results and how the system could work with driving in the future. But the end result is that it’s not at all a substitute for solely focusing on the road and not trying to multitask.

Plus, you still look stupid wearing them.
