Former Toro Rosso driver Jean-Eric Vergne, is getting ready for a new challenge in 2015, working on car development in the Ferrari simulator, alongside the team’s third driver Esteban Gutierrez.

Ferrari team principal Maurizio Arrivabene showed his trust in the young driver, welcoming him to the team: “On behalf of the entire team, I welcome Jean-Eric, who I’m sure will make an important contribution to our development work in the simulator“. Arrivabene also stated that Vergne ” will fit into a programme aimed at improving important areas, invigorating and strengthening an already strong and capable group of professionals.”

Vergne said he felt honored to be joining the Ferrari family and “becoming a part of the most prestigious team in the history of Formula 1“. Right now, it’s uncertain how much Vergne will be able to contribute to a team looking to close the gap on Mercedes GP and the dominance they showed last season, especially knowing how invested other teams are as well, such as McLaren with their brand new Honda engines. They, along with Williams, will be looking to compete for the title.

Ferrari clearly have a tough road ahead after finishing 4th in the constructors standings last season, but the arrival of four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel should inject more optimism and competitiveness into the team next year.
