First Scoop Of New Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe, A BMW X4 Rival

It only took a few weeks after the presentation of the all-new GLC SUV in mid-June for Mercedes-Benz to roll out a prototype for the related GLC Coupe.

Surprisingly, Stuttgart didn’t bother with a distracting camouflage, simply wrapping part of the rear and a few sections on the nose of the car, which indicates that it won’t be long before it releases the swoopy-styled sports version of the GLC onto the market.

Speaking of styling, the production model is very close to the GLC Concept displayed at the Shanghai Auto Show in April, maintaining the same profile but adding more practical door handles and mirrors, along with larger lights and less dramatic bumpers on both ends of the SUV.

That said, it should have a similar footprint with the 4.7 meter long study, possibly riding on the same 2,873 wheelbase as the related GLC, with which it will share its engine range comprising of four-cylinder diesel and petrol engines, including a 241hp and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm) 2.0-liter turbo four gasoline unit with which the GLK’s successor will launch in North America this year. It should also get the C400 and C450 AMG Sport’s twin-turbo V6 producing 329hp (333PS) and 362hp (367PS) respectively.

The new GLC Coupe will take aim at BMW‘s existing X4, and just like the taller, but plainer looking, GLC, it too will be offered in right-hand drive markets.
