The bad news is that Citroen won’t make a production version of the Cactus M Concept. The good news is parts of its fresh styling will be infused on future production models.
The Cactus M is a quintessential French concept that isn’t afraid to take automotive design to the next level. In spite of not making it past the concept stage, Autovisie reports that Citroen is working on a new model, possibly a C4 Cactus variant, which will include some elements seen in the study.
Design boss Alexandre Malval says the concept car acts as a very good base for further developments and that we’ll see some parts of its DNA in a production vehicle “very soon”. That’s good to hear because, in sharp contrast to other brands, Citroen put the focus on a vivid lifestyle and design idealization rather than futuristic looks and state-of-the-art technology.
The Cactus has been a hit with buyers for its looks, practicality and affordability. It makes a lot of sense for a mainstream manufacturer to choose this route and not try to compete with established premium rivals, although making the DS a distinct sub-brand has, so far, paid off.
