If you liked the most recent Mad Max movie and wouldn’t mind seeing more, you are in luck as the franchise  may get two follow-ups.

Top Gear obtained the information straight from George Miller, the director. He reportedly said “this film [Fury Road] was green lit three times and fell over three times over a decade. We went to shoot with Mel Gibson back in 2001, but then 9/11 happened, and the American dollar collapsed against the Australian dollar close to 30 per cent, so we lost that amount of budget overnight.”

They apparently tried to do the filming in Australia afterward, but it rained in the Outback desert and it forced them to look elsewhere. The destination then chosen was the Namibian desert in South Africa, but in doing so it actually turned into a different movie, with a different script and set of characters.

In Miller’s own words, “we ended up with two scripts. We’re talking to the studio [Warner Bros] about it as we speak, but which one of the two stories will happen next, I’m not so sure.”

Before he directs another Mad Max, though, Miller is looking to do a much less frantic movie and one that isn’t so much about action and explosions.
