Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has presented its range of updated Uconnect systems at CES 2016 in Las Vegas.

The new Uconnect systems have been comprehensively upgraded for 2016 and most significantly, now support Apply CarPlay and Android Auto. Both of these systems can link up to their respective smartphone devices and offer a range of hands-free functions including Siri voice control on Apple CarPlay and Google search’s verbal function on Android Auto.

Additionally, the fourth-generation Uconnect systems now offers improved performance through faster startup times, improved capacitive touchscreen responsiveness, greater display resolution and brightness and better processing power.

It isn’t known when the roll-out of the new-and-improved Uconnect will start but CES attendees are being provided the chance to see it in action in a 2016 Dodge Charger Pursuit vehicle designed for law enforcement officers. It includes all the new features of 2016’s Uconnect system but instead of an 8.4-inch display, has a much large 12.1-inch screen with a 1024×768 resolution.

“The Uconnect team is evolving Uconnect and making it even better,” said Joni Christensen, head of Uconnect marketing for FCA. “With the launch of the fourth generation of Uconnect systems, we are continuing to minimize the everyday stresses of busy lifestyles by providing drivers with a variety of ways to stay conveniently connected to their vehicles, while making every drive exceptionally informative, entertaining and unique.”
