The Mercedes-Benz C-Class range is not the only family enjoying an increasing number of members with reports indicating that the new E-Class Estate will be offered with an All Terrain model, set to be revealed in October.

Autocar suggests that this derivative will be created to rival the Audi A6 Allroad and add some practicality to the estate while offering an alternative to the expanding line-up of Mercedes-Benz SUVs.

Just like the A6 Allroad, it is claimed that the E-Class All Terrain will receive a number of bespoke body panels to distinguish it from the standard estate. These will include restyled front and rear bumpers with plastic skid plates, strengthened inner wheel arches, roof rails and new wheels. There’s also a possibility that like the Allroad, the Mercedes alternative will have black bumpers and wheel arches, rather than body-colored ones.

Unsurprisingly, the E-Class All Terrain will be available with the same engines as in other E-Class models. These will include a selection of turbocharged petrol and diesel powertrains and potentially, a petrol-electric plug-in hybrid setup.

One particularly important element of the more rugged E-Class will be the inclusion of an adjustable air suspension system which the marque dubs Air Body Control. It will offer different levels of ground clearance and have the ability to automatically adjust.
