Volvo is the first automaker to offer the Spotify music streaming service globally in its new cars.

The first models to benefit from the service are the new XC90, S90 and V90, with the announcement made at the Mobile World Conference, in Barcelona, Spain.

Anyone that has used Spotify knows how great it is – you have access to your favorite music, all the time. We are very proud of our unique and custom-made interface for Spotify“, commented Senior VP Marketing Sales and Service at Volvo Cars, Bjorn Annwall.

In order to offer the best user experience, the Swedish manufacturer has worked closely with the popular streaming music service, which takes advantage of the most appreciated features using the large touch screen in the refreshed “90” family.

Accessing the service will require a Premium subscription, but customers new to Spotify will benefit from a 30-day free trial period. The service “does away with the need to use a smartphone for music streaming while on the road” and it is also available in cars via Bluetooth or through Apple CarPlay connectivity.

Another interesting feature is the Spotify Connect functionality, which allows passengers to use their smartphones as remote controls for the in-car app, “without the need to connect their devices to the car or drain their batteries“.
