Mercedes Favouring Poland Instead Of Russia For New Car Factory

Mercedes-Benz is considering picking up Poland as the location of a new manufacturing plant instead of Russia according to reports.

As AutoNews reports, one of the locations Mercedes is considering is in Jawor, Poland where Jaguar Land Rover had also examined for building a new factory before deciding to go in Slovakia.

There is no specific info on which models Mercedes is going to build at the new plant apart from a generic plan to produce models based on their new MRA modular architecture. The platform in question is currently used by models like the C-, E- and S-Class as well as the GLC crossover.

At the moment Mercedes is enjoying a significant sales increase, with the first two months of 2016 posting a 16 per cent growth over the last year. The company’s CEO Dieter Zetsche said back in January that Mercedes wants to build a plant in Russia but since then, there have been no signs that their market will recover soon from the big recession, bringing Poland into the game.

A Daimler spokesman said that “there are currently no decisions regarding local production of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars or engines in Europe”, while Polish officials remain tight-lipped about negotiations with the German company.
