As BMW have started testing prototypes of the 1-Series sedan, an alleged leak claims to show some of its components.

Posted online by Ferd, they include the brand’s signature kidney grille, bumpers similar to what we’ve seen on the Concept Compact Sedan a few months ago in Guangzhou, side panels that seem to have room for two doors on each side and a trunk lid different to the one used on the 2-Series Coupe/Cabrio.

Underpinned by the UKL platform, shared with the X1 and 2-Series Tourer models, it will become BMW’s first ever front-wheel drive sedan. More expensive models will get the xDrive all-wheel drive option and power should come from a mix of 1.5-liter three-cylinder and 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel units mated to either a standard six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic.

Some suggest that the Munich’s rival to the Mercedes-Benz CLA and Audi A3 Sedan will be offered solely in the Chinese market, while others report it will become a global model and will eventually land in the USA and Canada too, in the first half of 2017.
