The first video reviews of Porsche’s entry-level sportscar are here, telling us what the new turbo models are like on the road.

Let’s face it, swapping the sonorous flat-sixes for a pair of turbo’d flat-fours was never going to improve the soundtrack of one of the most sweet-handling models you can buy, no matter the price tag.

But with the adoption of the new engines, the new 718 Boxster can now claim not only to be really cleaner on terms of emissions but also way faster. S models, fitted with the PDK gearbox and the Sports Chrono, are now capable of a 0-62mph in 4.2 seconds and a 177mph top speed thanks to the new 345hp turbocharged 2.5-litre engine.

The chassis has been updated with a retuned suspension and a 10-per-cent quicker steering rack, with the optional PASM dropping the ride height by 10mm. Porsche claims that they have revised everything bar luggage compartment lids, the windscreen and the convertible top.

Autocar and Auto Express deliver their first driving impressions of the new 718 Boxster S. Better than ever or just another victim of downsizing?
