With the heavy shadow of its more powerful siblings falling on the shoulders of the California T, it’s no wonder that fans seem rather critical of it.
Sure, the folding hard top might dictate most of its design but this is still a Ferrari at heart, with the same engineers the 488 GTB had, working on the chassis’ dynamics and engine.
The latter is the same unit used in the mid-engined brother, a 3.9-litre twin turbo V8 which in this case produces 560hp and 755Nm (557lb ft) of torque, allowing the California T to complete the standard 0-62mph (0-100km/h) procedure in 3.6 seconds.
And with Ferrari’s latest Handling Speciale pack now fitted, the brand’s entry level model promises bigger thrills than ever. The new option brings faster gearchanges, a stiffer suspension setup and a new exhaust system among others to make the California T a more involving machine.
Motor Trend flew all the way up to Italy to sample the angrier 2+2 convertible and find out if it is worth recommending.
