Tesla’s boasting was cut short by Model X buyers who complained about the vehicle’s windshield, which causes light ghosting, flare, and even double vision at night due to its size.

As intriguing as it looks, the feature offers little protection against sunlight, even though it comes with unique side pillar-mounted sun visors that double as vanity mirrors. So it was back to the drawing board for the electric car company.

But don’t worry, Tesla didn’t scrap the gigantic curved windshield – claimed to be the largest windshield of any production car, especially as it was described as a nightmare during the Model X’s development.

Instead, Tesla fixed the problem by offering a free, removable sunshade to every Model X owner. The company says that the front upper sunshade blocks two thirds of light and heat coming through the front upper windshield, and it’s constructed out of a lightweight fabric with a collapsible rigid frame.

Yes, but is it convenient to use and install? Well, not really, at least judging by the installation guide Tesla provided. Needless to say, the passengers will probably need a good reason to remove it once it’s in place; but at least it does its job and it’s free, right?
