Nissan North America has announced a recall for 4,355 units of the 2016MY Leaf and Sentra.

The new safety campaign covers 174 examples of the Leaf, produced from February 24 to March 23, 2016, and 4,181 Sentras, put together between February 9 and March 4, 2016, which are joined by another 8 Leafs and 157 Sentras sold in Canada.

Discovered during a quality inspection in late February, the problem revolves around the wiring harness connector, which may disconnect from the dual-stage passenger airbag and, if this happens, then the part may not deploy during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

At the time, Nissan is not aware of any injuries related to this condition and states that it will start notifying owners of the affected vehicles from late July. After an appointment will be scheduled with a local dealer, technicians will inspect the wiring harness connector for proper engagement and, if necessary, the main body harness and passenger airbag module will be replaced, free of charge.
