Aided by Heico Sportiv’s expertise, Volvo’s executive diesel-powered flagships now pack more brawn.

The four-cylinder engine line-up available for the S90 and V90 is quite powerful, with outputs ranging from 251hp to 316hp for the gasoline variants, and from 187hp to 232hp for the diesels. That said, despite their calm, cool looks, the big Volvos can pack a punch (when required), albeit Heico reckoned the D5 diesel could do with a bit more oomph – to match its gasoline-powered counterpart.

With its new e.motion tuning package, the German aftermarket specialist increased the Drive-E diesel’s power to 258 PS (255hp) and a whopping 520 Nm (383 lb-ft). Again, this is coming from a 1,969 cc, turbocharged inline 4 diesel engine.

Besides to the perceptible – as Heico says – extra 23 PS (23hp) and 40 Nm (29 lb-ft), Heico’s engineers’ development goal was to achieve harmonious and perceptible power development at medium and high engine speeds.

The cost of these modest, but effective, enhancements is €2,425 ($2,693), and they can only be installed at authorized, contracted Volvo dealers. The mods don’t have an impact on the emissions and their warranty covers 60 months or 150,000 kilometers (93,205 miles).

And this is only the beginning, because Heico confirmed that further performance enhancements will follow for the D4, T5, T6, and T8.
