If you like your cars to look different, then you’ll probably love the classic Alfa Romeo Montreal.

Alfa’s 2+2 coupe was launched in 1970 with a 2.6-litre V8 under the hood and a lot of attitude. “I’d never ever seen one in person, but I just knew that I was in love with the design”, says TJ Grewal, proud owner of this Montreal. “The first time I ever saw a Montreal, was this one”.

When new, the Alfa Romeo Montreal was more expensive to buy than cars like the Jaguar E-Type or the Porsche 911. The V8 engine was developed from the racing units used in the 33 Stradale and the Tipo 33 while the chassis was shared with the smaller GTV Coupe. To cope with the larger amounts of power, Alfa Romeo added a limited-slip differential and a five-speed manual gearbox.

The company’s goal was to blur the lines between a sports car and a grand tourer but Alfa Romeo managed to sell just 3,900 units in the seven years the car was on sale. Time has been kind though to the Montreal which now looks even more gorgeous.

Petrolicious features the relationship of Grewal and his very nice blue example in their latest episode.
