The exterior styling of future Bentleys will be shaped by this man. His name is John Paul Gregory, and he’s just been promoted as the company’s head of exterior design.

Given Bentley’s British base and German ownership, Gregory is perhaps ideally suited towards advancing up the ranks at Crewe.

He was born in the UK, earned his bachelor’s degree in transportation design at the University of Northumbria in England and a master’s in automotive design from Hochschule Pforzheim University in Germany.

He spent four years as an exterior designer at Volkswagen, and has been at Bentley for the past eight – serving until now as Advanced Exterior Design Leader. Working under design chief Stefan Sielaff, Gregory and his team will have the difficult task of moving Bentley design into the future while still looking classic – and without looking awkward.

“John Paul’s experience at Bentley is invaluable”, said Stefan Sielaff, Director of Design at Bentley Motors. “He brings a passion for the brand and a deep understanding of the direction we wish to go in. This is an important time for the company as we look ahead to new models with John Paul, alongside our highly-skilled design team, bringing many insights and ideas to inspire the next great Bentley.”

Sielaff took over from Luc Donckerwolke last year and was charged with redesigning the EXP 9 F concept into the production Bentayga. The result is somewhat questionable. But if the EXP 10 Speed 6 sports car concept (which Gregory helped design) is any indication of things to come, the future looks bright for Bentley design.
