Everybody expects big changes in Formula 1, since the sport was acquired by the North American media giant Liberty Media for $8 billion. Including the pilots.

According to AFP, Vettel led a “chorus” of drivers who spoke out about the changes they want to see in the sport. For starters, the drivers want faster, more exciting cars, with Ferrari’s driver invoking the old school era of screaming V12 engines, instead of today’s neutered V6 hybrids.

“As a driver you want to go faster, you want to drive the most exciting cars. If you ask me what I would like to drive, I would like double the amount of cylinders in the car and take off a lot of the complicated electric equipment,” said Vettel.

Both Sauber’s Felipe Nasr and Force India’s Sergio Perez said that tighter battles on the track is what the fans want, instead of watching a dominating team winning race after race.

“I would love to see Formula One a lot closer, giving the midfield teams the opportunity to be capable of winning a race, fighting for titles. I think that would be just something great for the fans to see – one race Williams on top, another race another team”, said Perez.

Daniel Ricciardo, on the other hand, said he might pitch the idea of racing on Saturday, so that teams could organize better parties after the race. Joking aside, the young driver has his priorities sorted out:

“I’d like a Saturday race as opposed to Sunday, just so we can plan a bigger night on Saturday. That would be good fun”.

It’s interesting to see how the sport will evolve from now on, but the acquisition deal will be finalized in the first quarter of 2017, so we’ll have to wait a bit.
