A Ferrari F40 has been destroyed by fire in the United Kingdom just after a comprehensive restoration of the car was completed.

A member from Ferrari Chat reports that the famed Italian supercar had just been taken on its first drive since the restoration when tragedy struck. While the exact cause of the blaze isn’t known, the damage it did to the F40 is devastating.

Due to the intensity of the fire, almost every single part of the car was burnt and utterly destroyed, meaning it’ll be declared a complete write-off.

The rear half of the car certainly suffered the full extent of the fire with the engine bay, tail end and interior nothing but a twisted mess of burnt steel and wrecked carbon fiber. The front has also been left with irreparable scars as the fire inevitably progressed from the rear of the car right through to the front end.

It isn’t known what chassis number this is but it was one of just 1,311 examples to ever leave the company’s famed Maranello factory. Sadly, it will never hit the street again, other than on a flatbed to a scrap yard.
