Porsche 959 With Over $100,000 In Maintenance Likely To Fetch Over $800k In Online Auction

A stunning 1988 Porsche 959 Komfort looks set to sell for in excess of $800,000 during an online auction over at Bring a Trailer.

At the time of writing, bidding for the model stands at $779,959 with 3 days remaining for the San Diego based model. While such a price puts the car within touching distance of the Porsche 918 Spyder’s original MSRP, it is far from a record 959 figure.

Considering how much this example has been used however, one wouldn’t expect it to sell for $1 million. After all, it has 38,179 miles on the clock, which while not much for a normal car, is a lot for a 959. Nevertheless, the car is in good condition and will be sold with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity as well as detailed service records and a well-documented ownership history.

Remarkably, the auction says that during the vehicle’s life, it has had over $100,000 in service costs, ensuring it is in perfect running order.

The car originally rolled out of Porsche’s factory in December 1987 and was then immediately shipped to Monaco and sold to Japanese Porsche dealer InterAuto in March 1988. Number 212 of just 292 produced, it was soon registered in Tokyo before later being imported into the United States.

Resting at the heart of the car is Porsche’s famous twin-turbocharged 2.85-liter flat-six delivering 444 hp when new. Out of the box, the 959 could go from 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3.6 seconds and onto a top speed of 195 mph (313km/h), making it the world’s fastest production car at the time.
