With over a quarter million of them made, the first-generation Range Rover was hardly what you’d call “rare.” So discovering one left unattended for years – decades, even – would hardly seem that significant a find. But this one has a bit more history to it.

When its current owner uncovered what would later become known as a Range Rover Classic on a farm in the English countryside, he heard rumors that it was once owned by the Queen.

As often as these stories circle in the UK, he didn’t pay them much notice. But when he dug a little deeper, it turned out there was some truth to them. As it turned out, the vehicle was purchased directly from the manufacturer by the Royal household.

And though no one could say for sure just who had driven it, the relatively small size of the sovereign motor pool made it likely that Elizabeth II had probably been driven in it – if not driven it herself, as she’s been known to do.

Even if she didn’t, though, you can bet that the princes and princesses in her immediate family probably did – the overwhelming chance of which made the vehicle’s restoration suddenly seem even more worthwhile.
