Say what you will about 2011’s movie adaptation of The Green Hornet – at least it had a cool car.

Known to fans as “Black Beauty,” the 1965 Chrysler Imperial is about as cool as superhero cars come – imposingly styled, murdered out, and armed to the teeth.

Dennis McCarthy and the team at Vehicle Effects built 29 of these cars with the full array of prop weapons, including machine guns in the hood, rocket launchers in the front and rear bumpers, and a flame thrower in the grille. Powered comes from a massive 7.4-liter V8, whose burble surely goes well with the green glow of the headlights, heavily tinted windows, and suicide rear doors.

Of the 29 built, 28 were destroyed as part of the stunt sequences in the making of the movie. This is the last surviving example. It was given away after the movie’s release as part of a promotion between Sony Pictures and CKE Restaurants – parent company to such chains as Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr. Now more than six years later, Barrett-Jackson auctioned it off just a couple of weeks ago for $29,700, which strikes us as a steal for a movie car… even if the movie wasn’t all it could have been.
