As Bentley is getting ready to pull the plug on the current Continental GT, it’s only natural to encounter prototypes of its successor more and more often.
Scooped in motion while doing its usual rounds on the Nurburgring, this test car keeps its camouflage to the minimum, thus allowing us to take yet another look at its new body, which doesn’t appear to be a major departure from today’s models.
However, if the exterior won’t bring any dramatic changes, the cabin will be entirely different, with a new dashboard, a digital instrument cluster, better materials, and new seats, and also the latest technology features, some of which could come straight from Porsche.
The new Continental GT will be built on the MSB platform, which is shared with the latest Panamera and is believed that it will help it shed some 150kg (330lbs).
In its range-topping form, the new grand tourer should come with a W12 engine rated at approximately 600 horses. This will probably be joined at some point by a less powerful version that could use the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 from the Panamera Turbo.
There have been talks about a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 and even a PHEV, but we’ll have to wait until the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, when the new Continental GT is believed to debut, to find out more about it.
