Lamborghini says its racing team will work more closely with the brand’s road car division in the creation of future models.

Hot on the heels of the Huracan Super Trofeo Evo premiering, Lamborghini’s motorsport aftersales boss Silvestro D’Amico revealed to Autocar that the new Huracan racer has prompted a closer relationship between the Squadra Corse racing team and the road car arm.

“We are still new to motorsport compared to other companies in this field, but already we are having our design department working more closely with the racing side. There will be more exchanges of information and technologies,” he said.

The Super Trofeo Evo is a developed version of the LP 620-2 Super Trofeo and will be used by the automaker in its one-make racing series and compete in various GT championships around the world.

Speaking about the racer, research and development boss Maurizio Reggiani said the lessons learnt with the Super Trofeo Evo will be transferable to the road.

“With the Super Torfeo Evo, we took the inspiration from [work with racing firm] Dallara and worked with our Centro Stile [in-house design department] to do something that is not only a perfect aerodynamic feature but to design the aerodynamics. The result of the Super Trofeo Evo is we have learned how to do a car with marvellous aerodynamics without any compromise in design or style,” he said.

According to sources, Lamborghini has big plans for the future, especially the Huracan. There could include at least seven new variants including a Barchetta, Speedster, Superleggera and an SV on the cards. Additionally, both a Huracan Targa and GT3 Stradale are said to be in the works alongside a Huracan Safari.
