By now, we know the McLaren 720S will hit 60 mph in less than 3 seconds, and we know that it can easily demolish a rival supercar like the Lamborghini Huracan in a straight line.

What about a half mile run though? This is where hypercars like the Porsche 918 Spyder, McLaren P1, LaFerrari and even the Bugatti Veyron really come into their own.

Luckily, Brooks from DragTimes took his 720S out and using launch control, he managed to cover a standing 1/2 mile in 15.8 seconds, crossing the 1/4 mile marker in 10.1 seconds.

While there’s room for improvement in terms of 1/4 mile performance – with the 720S undoubtedly being capable of running in the late 9s, the fact that it pulled off a 15.8 second 1/2 mile run in imperfect conditions is extremely impressive.

To put it into perspective, the Porsche 918 Spyder will cover a half mile in around 15.6 seconds, while the original Veyron, back when it came out, needed just over 16 seconds.

In other words, the McLaren 720S is hypercar-quick. Isn’t that the ultimate compliment one could pay to a supercar?
