Since its launch in 1995, the Sprinter turned out to be a success for Mercedes.

Two decades later, the three-pointed star has delivered more than 3 million units, worldwide – thus, a celebration is in order.

The large van was the market leader in several countries like Germany, China, South Africa and Argentina, while the US became its second-largest market.

In 2015, the firm sold 194,200 examples, out of which 28,600 were delivered to customers in the States, up 11 percent over 2014, and 28,000 were handed over to clients in Germany, accounting for a 10 percent increase.

The Sprinter is manufactured at six locations around the world, which include Dusseldorf and Ludwigsfelde, Germany, Charleston in South Carolina, U.S., Buenos Aires, Argentina, Fuzhou, China and in Nizhny Nowgorod, Russia.

Getting ready for the next generation, the manufacturer will build a new production site in Charleston, following an investment of around $500 million in the coming years. Dusseldorf and Ludwigsfelde will undergo a modernization process, for which Mercedes will invest €450 million.
