Alfa Romeo 6C Sports Car Reportedly Approved For Production

Alfa Romeo has reportedly given the production green light to an all-new sports car dubbed the 6C.

Tuning company Pogea Racing, which has decades of experience working with Alfa Romeos, claims to have received word from a trustworthy source that a new Alfa sports car is in the pipeline. It’s believed that it will launch in early 2020 following a public reveal later this year or during 2019.

Pogea claims that the source is “very deep into the decisions of the management of Alfa Romeo”. We’ve reached out to the Italian carmaker for a comment and will give you an update once we hear back from them.

At this stage, details about the 6C are very limited. However, it is safe to assume that it will be much larger than the lightweight 4C and potentially use the same platform as the Giulia. It seems possible that the vehicle could be similar in size to the Jaguar F-Type and that a 6C Quadrifoglio would very well be the latest Alfa Romeo model to use a twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 engine delivering a touch over 500 hp.

This isn’t the first time reports have surfaced about a potential Alfa Romeo 6C. In fact, we first reported on the possibility of an Italian F-Type rival back in August 2014. At the time, it was suggested the car would arrive in 2017 but that never happened.

I saw an Alfa Guilia on the highway yesterday; it looked sharp from the front; the side was recognizable; but the rear was so common and mundane it could have been confused with an Hyundai.

What Alfa Romeo needs is to bring back the spider; it should be instantly recognizable, properly-sized, and reasonably affordable. Seeing a few of them on the road – hopefully, in Alfa red – would do more to put Alfa back on the map in the USA than all the advertising they have been doing.

FCA has a spider, it’s called the Fiat 124 in the US, built on the same platform as the Mazda Miata. As an Alfa, it would suffer from a very limited dealer network like the Guila.

    • Six Thousand Times

This may be the base for that Spyder.

      • Originally Spider were to used Giulia platform. Now we had no idea what this supposed 6C ride on, but I think I would rule out bespoke platform.

    • DMJ

The Fiat 124 was an Alfa Romeo project with Mazda, that is public information. Later, Alfa Romeo has decided to drop the project to Fiat/Abarth because they say that all the new Alfas must be genuine and made in Italy. The Mazda/Fiat 124 is made in Japan. So, you will not see a new Spyder so soon.

      • Spider is still in the card, it’s just they push it back for second Alfa SUV.

        • DMJ

The Spider as a small affordable roadster was axed. They will do, sooner or later, a roadster, but with 300 – 500hp, will be on Jaguar F-Type terrain.

          • Yes that is what I said, Giulia based Spider is in the works, and not referring to Fiat 124. but they have been push back for Alfa SUV.

    • Alfa Spider was in the card by using Guilia platform, and possibly the coupe variant. But now Marchionne has focus his effort in second Alfa SUV and push the launch for Giulia Coupe and Spider.

And actually 124 was supposed to be Alfa Spider, but Marchionne move it to Fiat when it kinda contradict Alfa segmentation as premium brand. (Publicly he boasted about Alfa must be full blooded Italian and RWD while the reason is much simpler)

opening image looks promising, however still prefer the 8C Competizione

spot on. but lets hope the production looks great. I did read this time, this newest car will be on dual whishbone, unlike the current 4C

Whatever that rendering is, it is SO BEAUTIFUL. That is how a proper Alfa should look, not the generic, watered down crap they delivered that is the Giulia/Stelvia/4C. Sure they’re all handsome, in a most anonymous any-brand vehicle kinda way (outside of the lone alfa design detail, the grille). And the interiors of all of them wouldn’t pass muster in a modern Kia, so not even hoping they’ll match Audi/BMW over there.

Please make Alfa’s beautiful!!! They’re hot-blooded Italians for G-d’s sakes!

To be fair, the 4C is certainly beautiful from a few very specific angles. It just isn’t a beautiful car overall, from most other angles its absolutely goofy and strange looking. Nor is it a very good car from all the reviews, outside of a weekend, occasional-use toy. Good-enough is not ok for a new-to-USA market auto brand in what is one of the most competitive industry’s in the world. They simply must excel in all areas or sadly they will fade away.

This makes me so very happy.

        Don’t even get me started.

      • maserati123

        Yep, lets believe together.

  • Six Thousand Times

Always good news when an Alfa sports car is coming even if it is FCA and we’ve been lied to before.

  • LeStori

So potentially another track day car? Will sell in thousands. Sure why not, but is it just a distraction to keep the 4c plant in operation? We need a 105/115 style Coupe to go with the Giulia. A proper coupe. Not a 2 door Giulia.
Keep pumping out SUVs for the Mums and the Dads who want to be Mums but give us a proper Coupe.
As for a Spider as others have mentioned. Sure for the young and the old who want to be young but look like idiots with the top down as their roll over hair flies in the breeze or their bald heads go red in the sun if they do not wear a hat. Now who in their right mind wants to be an Alfa Romeo Hat driver?

    • The 6C is rather blurry atm, it’s not in FCA 5 year plan (although “specialist car” can mean anything, including 6C).

Personally I don’t see it as distraction to 4C, It’s like Lotus Elise and Exige, it’s same car but they had different customer.

And the Giulia based coupe is pushed back for second Alfa SUV, But hopefully they will come in 2019-2020.

  • Vassilis

    Ooooh interesting!

  • izzey04

Car company that understand what customers want..

  • Kinda weird that the source is a tuning company, but hey this isn’t bad rumours anyway.

I would be curious on what platform they were based.

  • maserati123

Bring it on Alfa, and a better 4C too.
