Ford Performance Models Battle Each Other On The Track!

Eight Ford Performance models raced each other on the Motorland circuit near Barcelona recently, with Ford Chip Ganassi Race Team drivers behind the wheel.

The models in question were the new Mustang GT, the Mustang GT350R, the Ford GT in road car and race car guise, the Focus RS, the all-new Fiesta ST, the old Fiesta ST and the F-150 Raptor.

Ford filmed the cars around Motorland in partnership with Castrol Edge during a four-hour window in which the drivers set off at intervals for an exciting eight-way battle through the final bends and finish straight.

“It was a hilarious shoot. Eight racing drivers all given a car to go flat-out in for a race. Anything could have happened and it almost did! It was amazing to be one of the first people to drive the all-new Fiesta ST, one of the most popular cars in the world, and it handled like a dream,” said Harry Tincknell, one of the drivers.

The two luckiest drivers were arguably Joey Hand and Olivier Pla, who drove the Mustang GT350R and Ford GT respectively. The former stated that he was hoping he would get the GT350R, while Pla went as far as to call the GT a “work of art.”

All but two of the cars featured the automaker’s EcoBoost engine technology, from the small 3-cylinder 1.5-liter unit in the new Fiesta ST, to the 3.5-liter twin turbo EcoBoost in the F-150 Raptor and the GT.

Well, they did say they were working on that. I guess once the site switched to a new server that was a brief issue that resolved.

    Bravo Ford!
-Some concern as to why the Mustang GT350’s time was soooo close to the blue GT’s time. Nothing a V8 wouldn’t fix.

The starts were staggered, so the GT had to make up a 7 second deficit to the GT350 from the start and still finished ahead. Over 7 seconds on a track of this size is a huge difference.

      • Bo Hanan

I think that says the most about the standard Mustang GT because it wasn’t that far behind the GT350. The GT really needs a V8 because the mid-engine Corvette will destroy it.

They already have a 700+ hp flat-plane V8 developed and paid for in the upcoming GT500. Why not drop it into the GT as a special edition? My guess, it’ll never fit that tiny, lightweight body but I sure would love to see them try!

Groovy idea. Nice visuals. Had to watch with the audio off due incredibly stupid advertorial running commentary.

    Pretty awesome video

I said it elsewhere – the sound of that 3.5 V6 in the Raptor sucks! Needs a V8…like the GT350, which sounds awesome!

As a GM guy from way back, I gotta say Ford’s got it now. The new Mustangs are mindblowers.
