New Datsun Cross SUV Launches In Indonesia, Displays Its Main Features

When Nissan’s CEO, Carlos Ghosn, decided to resurrect the Datsun name it wasn’t to bring back famous nameplates from the past, like the 240Z, but to create a budget-friendly brand aimed at emerging markets.

The company’s latest model is a crossover, named the Cross, and was just launched in Indonesia. Sales in the Southeast Asian country will commence in a couple of months, with pricing starting from the equivalent of $12,200.

The Nissan-owned brand will likely introduce it to other Asian markets, such as India, where its sub-4-meter length will make it more affordable to buy due to lower taxes.

Until it reaches the dealers, though, Datsun is celebrating its launch by detailing some of its features in four official videos.

These include the Vehicle Dynamic Control, which is said to be a first in the segment, a sound-proof cabin that keeps most wind and tire noise away from the interior, three rows of seats, and a 6.75-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Datsun hasn’t detailed the trim levels just yet, but regardless of their selection, buyers will have to settle for a 1.2-liter petrol engine, which is the sole choice. The three-cylinder unit makes 78hp (79PS) and 76lb-ft (104Nm) of torque and is mated to a manual gearbox or, optionally, a CVT.

  • Datsun Go is an ancient vehicle based on last gen Nissan who rides hard, has plastic from garden chair and they tried to cloak it with some “feature”.

It may work in China but it doesn’t work anywhere.

      Oh, hell no.

Looks like the Nissan Juke mated with Subaru, glad that the Datsun name is resurrected even if it’s starting out small. But, you have to start somewhere and then gain momentum later when it doesn’t belly flop

    • For a bit of knowledge, Datsun sales in Indonesia has been dropping massively, the problem with Go is that they feel like a very cheap car, with the same price you can get better car from Toyota or Honda. The car just awful.

This is what happens when you clinic your target customer and then and use their design input.

  • Nick099

Nissan stole a Jaguar design for a cheap vehicle.
Like they’ve never done that before.

  • Imjus Sayin

Would be a great addition to the Versa lineup in North America and call it the Versa Cross. Nissan should also pimp up the Versa with a Nismo version.

    • If you ever see Datsun Go, you probably think that this car won’t be accepted in America. Hell even in Europe no one sells something with lower quality than this.

    $12,200 is great!

Is it Dacia twin brother ?

    • No, worse version of last gen micra.
