BMW has launched the all-new X3 in Europe and it is time to find out if it’s as good as the Bavarian automaker claims it to be.
While the exterior might seem a bit too similar to the old model, BMW says that the new X3 is actually more slippery through the air, offering class-leading aerodynamics with a Cd of just 0.29.
Add to that the better soundproofing, the acoustic glass and the active suspension and the new X3 suddenly becomes one of the most quiet and comfortable SUVs in its class.
The EU-spec range of the BMW X3 includes three petrol and two diesel units (at least initially), kicking off with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine in both cases. All models are paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and come with four-wheel drive as standard.
The range-topping BMW X3 M40i gets a turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six with 355hp (360PS) and 369lb-ft (500Nm) of peak torque, enabling it to hit 62mph (100km/h) from a standstill in 4.8 seconds. Most European buyers, however, will probably opt for the 190hp 2.0-liter diesel model, as the one tested here.
The interior remains one of the well-built environments in its class and is packed with the latest tech, as well as many clever features to boost its practicality, while the available space is good for even five adult passengers.
