Facelifted Mazda6 Touring Arrives With New SkyActiv-X Powertrain

The 2018 Mazda6 Touring has paid a visit to the plastic surgeon and it’s now ready for its European debut at next month’s 2018 Geneva Motor Show.

The visual changes applied to its exterior aren’t radical, but then again, it was expected, given that the tweaked saloon version, which was shown at the 2017 LA Auto Show, sports the same styling.

The big news however is that the 2018 Mazda6 will now adopt the SkyActiv-X powertrain. This “introduces an innovative combustion method called Spark Controlled Compression Ignition (SPCCI)”, and is billed as “the world’s first commercial petrol engine to use compression ignition”.

The technology combines the benefits of diesel engines such as initial response and fuel economy, with cleaner emissions.

Elsewhere, the updated Mazda6, in both Saloon and Touring body styles, features revised seating inside, reduced noise and vibration levels, and a broader range of i-ActivSense safety features, such as the 360-degree camera system, and intelligent speed assist system.

Besides the updated Mazda6, the automaker will also bring the Vision Coupe to the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The stunning looking study will be joined by another show car that comes straight from Tokyo – the Kai, which previews the next generation Mazda3.

Say what you want but the previous model after the facelift and in sport package was nicer!

  • Wow those concept images are incredible. They out did Aston Martin!

The exterior is starting to look too busy and overwrought. The interior, however, is spectacular and easily the nicest in its class. The only (though major) demerit is the tiny and floating infotainment screen along with the entirely analog gauges which already look outdated. Could’ve left the central speedo analog and flanked it by digital tach, etc. Just ideas…

Nice news, but what I want to know is, does it gain the new 2.5L turbo engine that is going in the 2018 Mazda 6?

  • I hoped the X was for AWD

  • THAT WAGON IS SHARP. LOOKING CLOSER AT THE DASH YOU CAN SEE LEATHER GOING THROUGH THE CENTER OF THE DASH BETWEEN THE AIR VENTS AND THE HVAC CONTROLS. VERY ELEGANT.
LOOKING AT THEIR WEB SITE THEY SAY 2018 MODELS WILL BE AVAILABLE SPRING 2018. ODD GIVEN THAT MOST MANUFACTURES RELEASE IN THE FALL OF THE PREVIOUS YEAR.

Nobody in America would buy this. Pity.

… but in Europe, will have 😛

Not completely but, yeah, Americans have walked away from wagons and into SUVs.
